New Hornady Superformance Ammunition
The new Superformance ammunition claims to increase velocities 100-200 fps faster than previous standard loads.
This will be done without increasing felt recoil or muzzle blast and they are able to accomplish this without increasing pressures. This new custom blended powder should be available Jan 2011 and may be a great improvement across the board for both hand loaders and factory ammo shooters.
The difference in the field would amount to a considerable change in hold over and windage adjustments needed for long range shooting. Hornady's new Superformance Varmint ammunition such as the .223 Remington 53 grain V-Max boattail with a BC of .290 is designed specifically for that caliber and will improve performance significantly. It will pretty much have the same down-range trajectory as a 55 grain 22-250. You can expect the same results from the 22-250 with it's performance reaching or exceeding that of the 220 Swift loads.

It remains to be seen if hand loaders will be able to meet or exceed Hornady's factory ammunition. My guess is that we will see some pretty amazing speeds when this new powder hits the shelves. One thing for sure, it definitely raises the standards of factory ammunition which is good to see.
We would love to hear your comments and experiences with the new Superformance loads.
